Hillingdon Mind – Local Association for Mental Health.
Appropriate Adults to attend local police stations. Volunteers are needed to support vulnerable people in Uxbridge and Heathrow police stations.
Are you:-
Committed? Enthusiastic? Reliable? Willing to be on call, possibly during
unsocial hours? Prepared to undertake training this Spring?
Hillingdon Mind is looking for Volunteers to act as Appropriate Adults to
attend police stations to safeguard the rights and welfare of vulnerable
people, such as those with mental health or learning difficulties and is
seeking to recruit people from the local community and particularly would
welcome volunteers from minority communities.
This is an excellent opportunity for local people to make a constructive
contribution to their community by supporting vulnerable people at a time
of crisis in their lives.
When anyone is arrested for an offence and brought to a police station,
it can be a very bewildering experience. It can be all the more frightening
and confusing if they have a mental health problem or a learning disability,
which is why the presence of an appropriate adult at the police station
is so important. Ongoing support, training and travel expenses are provided.
